The alarm clock goes off at 5 am; you hit the snooze button every 5 minutes trying to get as much sleep as you possibly can. Reality hits when you realize that “snoozing” is no longer an option for you because you only have a few minutes to get yourself and the kids ready for school and out the door.
You spend 8 hours of your day, solving problems, meeting deadlines, dealing with customers, barely finding time to stop to eat a good healthy lunch before its time to make a mad dash out of the office, into your car, and through the rush hour traffic to get home with only enough time to snatch your kids to get them off to all their extra curricular activities. By the time these activities are over you’re exhausted and can only think about nothing else but hitting the sack; the routine continues……………
Does this sound similar to your life? Are you happy with this lifestyle? I know many individuals who can identify with this and often express that they feel trapped and unsure how to escape; they want the very best for their children. Consequently, if not addressed promptly other issues may arise such as physical, mental or emotional health complications; this for the sake of what?
Wanting the best for your children is great! But it would also be great if your children had the best of you. Here are 8 ways to prevent “burn out”
1. Schedule activities wisely (don’t take on more than you can handle)
2. Prioritize your schedule (only do what matters first)
3. Share the responsibility (Carpool, take turns to pick up & drop off kids)
4. Schedule time for yourself (no kids, spouse, no phones, emails, texts)
5. Schedule family times ( play games, no phone calls, emails, texts etc)
6. Outsource (hire a Cleaner, a Nanny, Dog Walker etc)
7. Exercise (Minimum 15minutes a day)
8. Eat healthy (Self explanatory)
